X-Men: Apocalypse IMAX Poster sliceFox has been seriously stepping up the marketing campaign for their latest X-Men movie in recent weeks, partnering up with Sky to make the young new stars of the movie the centre of attention in Sky’s new broadband ads alongside Evan Peters’ returning character, Quicksilver. Last week, Fox released the final trailer that put the emphasis on Jennifer Lawrence’s Raven / Mystique. And now the studio has unveiled a new X-Men: Apocalypse IMAX poster, dominated by Magneto and the new antagonist, Apocalypse.

James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier also shares the spotlight alongside Lawrence and fellow returning star Nicholas Hoult as Beast. And they’re surrounded by the main new characters: Psylocke, Angel / Archangel, Cyclops, Storm, and Nightcrawler. Curiously, Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey is missing from the action, as is Quicksilver. Presumably they couldn’t make the Apocalypse IMAX poster work with that many characters and still look good.

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor, and Ben Hardy top the all-star cast.

Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is back behind the camera for his fourth film in the franchise as a director. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) gets final credit on the screenplay. He, Singer, Michael Dougherty (Krampus, X2) and Dan Harris (X2, Superman Returns) also earn story credits.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 18th in the UK, arriving mid-week on our shores. It hits US cinemas just over a week later in 2D and 3D on May 27th.
